Brief History on Actresses of Hindi Movie Industry

The versatility and acting skill of actresses of Hindi cinema could never remain hidden even it was a male dominated industry. Starting from Zubeida of Alam Ara (1931) - the first movie with a soundtrack - a lot of versatile actresses have given life to a lot of characters and have made them immortal. Nargis, Madhubala, Nutan, Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari and Mala Sinha enjoyed the attention from a huge number of followers they made in the initial ages of Hindi cinema.

It was their success in the industry that inspired several actresses enter the world of movies. Each decade in Bollywood saw charming beauties like Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore, Helen and Mumtaz showcasing their acting skill. With intense and captivating enactment, Deepti Naval, Jaya Bhaduri, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil brought another meaning to the term acting and were more well known than actors. From mere side roles, they rose to becoming the face of the movie. Other actresses like Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman were confident enough to enact sensuous characters, which broke the traditions of society. Hindi film industry started accepting actresses as an integral part of films and storylines were never complete without actresses.

In the 80s and 1990s, Hindi film fans were mad about Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kajol and Raveena Tandon. Various hit song numbers in movies show actresses, proving that they are in demand always.

The strong female presence in Hindi film industry can be seen through the success of Konkona Sen Sharma, Anushka Sharma, Asin, Nandita Das, Soha Ali Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone as actresses. Not only for style but Bollywood actresses are famous for their contribution and achievement in the industry.

Over the years a lot of actresses have contributed to the growth of Indian cinema and their names are written in golden words in Bollywood's history.
